Waterparks - Bloomington, IL
Being a sold-out general admission show meant that the crowd was outside braving the cold weather and waiting in line outside the venue hours before the show started.
De’wayne Jackson and Nick Gray opened the night up for us with an insane amount of energy. Come time for Super Whatevr there wasn’t a single person in the crowd who wasn't cheering and excited to see what they had to offer. It was definitely a change in vibe from the earlier sets but there were no changes in the energy. Song after song, you could feel the crowd get more into it and they left you wanting more with the end of their set.
I Don’t Know How But They Found Me (iDKhow) was a nice familiar face for most of us in the room being Dallon Weeks (Panic! At The Disco & The Brobecks) and Ryan Seaman (Falling in Reverse). As Dallon dramatically snaps and sings along to “Nobody Likes The Opening Band”, fans in the front row held up a sign reading “I LOVE this opening band” which he briefly pointed out. With a strong set of their original songs and covers, iDKhow was the perfect opener for this tour.
Finally, it was the time everyone was waiting for. Waterparks opened the set strong with Blonde, 11:11 and Rare. They continued through their set having the entire crowd jumping and dancing along to every song, including while singing Happy Birthday to their tour manager. One of the best parts of a headlining tour for any artist is that they get to play songs that they usually don't get the opportunity to, which is something Awsten pointed out before playing "Not Warriors", a song that was only released in Japan. Being a song never released here, you’d think that the crowd wasn’t going to be as into it but that was far from the case with this crowd, which was just as into it as their big hits.
